Aficionado... Someone who is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about an activity, subject, or pastime.
As I commented on the Home page, visiting Beddgelert and Rhayader was a large part of my life back in the 1980s.
I had two interests and activities, which helped me along the way.
My first interest; was with maintaining, repairing and keeping the car looking as clean as possible.
I, along with my Father, did all my own maintenance and repairs on the cars I owned. This was for a couple of reason.
Garages were expensive, and the repair was only as good as the person doing the actual repair. On a couple of occasions, I had reason to allow a garage to undertake a repair, and on both occasions the car had to go back to have the repair rectified.
As my Father had been an engineer in the Air Force, he was somewhat fluent with how cars worked and therefore following his guidance I was able to repair most issues.
Between us, we even manage to replace a clutch on the MKII Escort Harrier. It took a week and was mentally and really physically draining, as apart from the engine itself, everything else, radiator, exhaust manifold, etc etc, had to be removed.
My second interest was with maps.
