I hope you’ve found this site interesting. It’s a compilation of my travels back and forth to Wales while I worked for the Royal Mail.
It’s also an account of what happened when I departed the Royal Mail and pursued other professions.
If you have any comments, please use the form below.
During the 1980s, when I visited North and Mid Wales, I lived in a town called Brentwood, Essex, which is about 25 miles east of London. (I now live in Scotland) But, as no one would have know where Brentwood was, I therefore said I came from just outside of London.
Map below, showing proximity of Brentwood to London.
I really used to enjoy my visits to Beddgelert and Rhayader, and this is the reason I've created this website, to determine if I can make contact with some of the then youngsters I got to know back then. As I'm now in my fifties (54 to be exact) the folks who I knew back then, would now probably be in their forties. As I mentioned, I only remember about four names.
Gwindaff and Gonx from Beddgelert, Peter from Nantmor, and a girl from Nantlle, who I have since learnt was Miranda.
The two girls I remember from Rhayader are Louise and Diana. I can't remember any of the guys names from Rhayader.
For those of you who may be interested, here's how I created this site.
If you’re trying to trace people who have more than likely completely forgotten about you, and are leading their own lives, you have to make a bit of an effort, to try and jog their memories.
All the photos in the 'About' section, were taken by me back in the 1908s when I visited Beddgelert and Rhayader.
The other photos under the ‘About Me’ section, are images taken from the internet via Google. The image at the top of ‘About Me’, of Chelmsford sorting office, is a screen shot from ‘Street view’ which is part of Google Earth.
The two maps shown in the ‘About Me’ section, are screen shots, which have been taken from the website multimap.com and have then been edited in Photoshop to add the necessary graphics onto them.
The images which fade into other images, when you put your mouse over them, (which may not happen, if your viewing the site in Internet Explorer) is achieved with the use of CSS coding in the creation of the website.
The image at the top of the ‘Home Page’ is a screen shot from Google Earth, which has then had the yellow words 'Beddgelert' and 'Rhayader' along with the yellow arrows and dots, added in Photoshop. The other two images (if the mouseover works for you) are again, Google images of the bridge in Beddgelert and the clock tower in Rhayader, which have been resized to the map image and again the wording added.
The images below were created using templates, although I had to create the graphics. The two websites beddgelertonline and rhayaderonline are not yet active, as I haven’t finished creating them.
This is also the same with the paragraphs towards the bottom of this page (and the other pages within this website) again about Beddgelert Online and Rhayader Online which redirect to the same as the sites mentioned above.
These names were originally purchased as I realized no one from Beddgelert or Rhayader would probably remember me or my first name, and as Beddgelert dot com and Beddgelert dot co dot uk were already in use, I had to be creative.
